Movers in Rossdale: what we know about moving here

Rossdale is small and it is mixed, and the mix is what decides a moving day here. Close to a quarter of its homes sit in a building of five storeys or more, a similar share are detached houses, and most of the rest is row housing. The same crew can be holding a service lift and a loading bay on one job and reversing onto a driveway on the next. There is no single shape to a Rossdale move.

Tenure splits almost evenly between owners and renters, which puts possession days and lease ends on the calendar in roughly equal measure. Households are small, a large share of the homes holding one person, and a small household is a modest load: one truck, a short list of heavy pieces, and a day whose length is set by access rather than by volume. Where a building is involved, the elevator and the loading zone are worth arranging with the building before the date: that is the single thing most likely to add hours to a job here.

The figures below come from the ring of southwest Edmonton communities Rossdale sits inside.

Moving costs around Rossdale, by the numbers

That ring runs to 56 southwest Edmonton communities, Downtown, Garneau, Haddow, Terwillegar South, Chappelle and Blue Quill among them, and 268 residential moves. Its middle job spent 4.5 hours on site and totalled $834 with tax; half fell between $496 and $1,432, a wide band because the set pools apartment work with full detached houses. Sizes ran 73% small, 22% medium and 5% large, so the long days are the minority of it.

How much do movers cost in Rossdale?

The median residential move across the southwest Edmonton communities around Rossdale is $834, total cost with tax, and half of those 268 jobs fell between $496 and $1,432. The rate is hourly and follows the number of movers and the size of the truck, and it is stated in the agreement before the crew starts.

  • What is a condo or apartment move in Rossdale like?

It starts at a lobby door rather than a driveway: nearly a quarter of Rossdale's homes are in a building of five storeys or more, so the address is often one where the elevator and the loading zone have to be arranged with the building first. The rate is the same hourly rate a house move is billed at; what changes is how much of the day is spent waiting on access rather than carrying.

  • Why is the price range for a Rossdale move so wide?

Because a single median covers a one-person suite and a full detached house billed at the same hourly rate. Half of the 268 nearby moves landed between $496 and $1,432, and the two ends of that band are different days rather than different prices. Rossdale's own housing runs right across that mix, from row houses to buildings five storeys up.

  • Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Rossdale?

Only if the truck has to stand on the roadway. For that Edmonton issues an On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit, and it carries no fee under the current schedule. The City asks for a minimum of 6 working days on low-impact work such as a residential move, and 10 working days for anything heavier, with processing slower through construction season. A driveway or a legal space at the kerb needs no permit at all.

  • How many movers and trucks will a Rossdale job need?

That follows the size of the home, and it is what sets the hourly rate: more movers is a higher rate per hour and a shorter day, so the number is agreed with you in writing before the date rather than decided on it. Across the surrounding communities 73% of the work was graded small, which is one truck and a short crew.

Rossdale neighbourhood guide for moving day

Nearly one home in four here stands five storeys up or higher. Where that is the address, the lift and the loading bay want booking with the building before the date, because a lift shared with everyone else in the building is the one part of a move nobody on the crew controls. For the detached and row-house share the question is the roadway instead, and Edmonton covers a truck occupying it with an On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit. There is no fee at present, but it has to be filed a minimum of 6 working days ahead for low-impact work.

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.

Rough start, strong finish I hired Cactus Moving twice: first to move my belongings into storage, and later to move everything into my new home once construction was finished. The first move was very disappointing. The day started with a truck breakdown on the way to my house.

I was 100% satisfied with Cactus Moving. My movers were prompt, courteous, and did an amazing job. I would use this company again and recommend them to others. I appreciated the call before the move confirming everything as well as the call after the move to make sure I was satisfied.
