Cactus is advertising movers and driver movers in two cities. Each posting states its own terms below, and each one takes its applications on Indeed.

Both postings put two screening questions on the application: any driving convictions in the last 3 years, meaning speeding, red lights, phone use or impaired driving, and any at fault insurance claims in the last 6 years.

Calgary hires movers and driver movers off one posting. The work is loading, transporting and unloading furniture and household items, and padding and wrapping them so the customer's floors and walls come through the day unmarked. Furniture that has to come apart is taken apart and rebuilt at the far end. Hold a full Class 5 licence and you take the wheel too. Indeed carries the posting, and it puts the rate at $17 to $28 an hour by experience and role. Performance bonuses sit on top of that: Calgary assesses them twice a month and pays them when the criteria were met in the period. The work is casual and on call, and no hours are guaranteed.

Edmonton advertises the same two jobs and staffs them from its own branch. A day is heavy lifting done safely, customer property and floors kept protected, and beds and tables broken down to clear a door and rebuilt after. Whoever holds the full Class 5 licence drives. Customer service is part of the job rather than something beside it, so you answer what people ask on site and work to the procedures the crew is given. The Edmonton posting on Indeed puts base pay at $17 to $28 an hour, and what you have done before decides where in that range you start. A week runs anywhere from 1.0 to 44.0 hours, and the busy months make for long days.

A moving day starts before the truck does. The crew loads the equipment it will need for the job it has been given: blankets, shrink wrap, floor runners, straps and dollies, and the boards and padding for anything heavy. On site, the protection goes down before anything is lifted, which is the part that separates a professional crew from a van and two friends.

The rest of the day is measurement and muscle. Furniture comes apart to get through doors and goes back together at the other end. Appliances, safes and pianos get the equipment and the crew size they need rather than an attempt. Commercial work often runs in the evening or across a weekend, because an office that cannot trade is an office losing money.
