The most reliable way to estimate packing supplies is to start with the size of your space, not the number of rooms. Square footage gives a more accurate picture of how much furniture, clothing, and household items need protection. Our bundle estimates are based on average packing volume observed across hundreds of moves and are intended as guidance rather than an exact formula.
If your home has minimal furniture, fewer personal items, or is partially packed already, you may need less. If you have storage rooms, a garage, or years of accumulated belongings, you may need more. When in doubt, it is safer to plan slightly above average to avoid running out mid-packing.

Unused boxes and materials can be accepted, depending on their condition. Because requirements vary by situation, we recommend calling us directly so we can guide you through the return process and confirm eligibility.
Reusable bins offer added durability and moisture resistance and are available for rent. Cardboard boxes are lighter and more flexible for long-term storage. Both options are designed to work efficiently within the same packing system.
We offer delivery of packing supplies to make planning easier. Delivery is available in all cities. If you have booked packing services with Cactus Moving, the delivery fee is waived and supplies are delivered by our team on the day of service. Calgary is the only location where supplies can be picked up free of charge. In Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Ottawa packing supplies are available by delivery only and are subject to a one-time delivery fee of $50 (Edmonton and Ottawa), and $75 (Toronto and Vancouver).
Packing materials serve one main purpose: protection during handling and transport. Boxes keep items organized and stackable, while wrapping materials absorb shock, prevent surface damage, and reduce movement inside containers. This is especially important during loading, unloading, and driving, where most damage occurs.
Using proper materials also speeds up the moving process. Well-packed items are easier to carry, load, and secure in the truck, which reduces handling time and lowers the risk of accidental drops or shifting during transit.
