Safe Movers Across Canada

A safe is the one item in a house that can damage the house. The weight, the route and the floor it lands on all get worked out before anybody touches it.

How Cactus moves a safe

Safes concentrate several hundred pounds onto four small feet, which is why the planning matters more than the lifting. The office asks for the make, the outside dimensions and the weight from the plate or the manual, then works backwards through the route: the doorway, the turn, the stair run, the threshold at the truck and the surface it will stand on at the other end.

On the day the crew protects the floor along the whole path, moves the safe on equipment rated for the load rather than on a household dolly, and controls it down stairs with straps instead of speed. A safe that has to come off a landing or across a finished floor gets boards laid first. The crew sets it in the position you point at and levels it before the job is closed.

  • Gun safes, home safes, office safes and document cabinets
  • Weight and route confirmed with you before the booking is taken
  • Floor protection and boarding along the entire carry path
  • Strap controlled stair descent rather than a slide
  • Set down, positioned and levelled where you want it

Safe moving by branch

Safe work needs the right equipment on the right truck, so the branch is where the honest answer about a date lives. Call the office on the card with the weight and the stair count ready.

There is no separate safe moving page for Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Vancouver yet, so those cards open the branch page instead. The quote form on it reaches the same coordinators.

Call us or get a quote online. Either works.

How safe moving is priced

The hourly model applies here as it does to any local job: the rate follows the crew and the truck, with a two hour minimum. Safe work is priced on the crew it needs rather than the volume it takes up, and the two things that decide the crew are weight and stairs, in that order.

One operations fee covers the office coordination. There is no fuel surcharge, no mileage and no travel time charge within city limits. Because a safe is quoted from measurements you supply, the office would rather have the plate reading and a photograph of the stair run than an estimate of the weight.

Moving costs in your city

Each branch publishes its hourly rates and its minimum, which is the frame a safe move is priced inside.

Mississauga has 7 local moves on record, and this table publishes a price at 30 or more, so that row carries its count and no figures. A spread taken from that many jobs would look like a measurement and read like a guess. What is firm at any sample size is the hourly rate card, and every city page below publishes it.

Totals are what Cactus invoiced, in Canadian dollars with tax in, for moves whose pickup and at least one drop-off were both inside the city. Medians and quartiles, never averages, winsorised at the 5th and 95th percentile so one unusual job cannot move a band. Storage and packing materials are billed on their own agreements and are outside these totals. Measured August 30, 2026.

Safe moving questions

What the office needs to know, and what customers ask back.

What do you need from me before you can quote a safe?

The weight, the height, the width and the depth, plus the number of stairs at each end and whether there is a turn on the stair run. A photograph of the safe in place and one of the route answers most of the rest.

Where do I find the weight of my safe?

Usually on the plate inside the door, on a sticker on the back, or in the manual, and the manufacturer's model page online has it if all three are gone. Guessing is the one thing to avoid, because the crew size and the equipment both come from that number.

Can a safe go up or down stairs?

Often, and it depends on the stair rather than the safe: the run, the width, the turn and what the treads are built on. That is why the office asks for the stair count and a photograph before it books. Where a stair will not take it, we say so rather than trying it.

Will my floors be damaged?

The crew lays protection along the whole path and boards the sections where the load is concentrated. Tell the office about hardwood, tile or a heated floor when you book so the right protection is on the truck.

Do you open the safe or move what is inside it?

No. The safe travels closed and locked, and the contents are your business. Remove anything loose or heavy inside it beforehand, since shifting weight makes the carry less predictable.

Can the safe move as part of a house move?

Yes, and it usually should. Tell the coordinator at the estimate stage so the crew size and the equipment are set for the safe as well as the household, rather than discovered on moving morning.

Send the weight and the stairs

With the plate reading and a photograph of the route we can price a safe move properly. Written estimate, and no travel time charge within city limits.
