The price of a local move in Calgary

Most local moves in Calgary landed between $469 and $1,213, and the middle one was $768.

The middle one billed 4.25 hours with a crew of 2, which is what turns the rate card below into that total.

An estimate is a guess until somebody has done the job. We have done a lot of them here, so the honest answer to what a move costs is the range our own invoices fell in, with the middle marked.

Local moves measured
3,685

closed, invoiced and paid, homes only

3,685 local moves in Calgary, April 2024 to August 2026. A local move is one whose pickup and at least one drop-off are both in Calgary. Figures are medians and quartiles of what Cactus actually invoiced, never averages, winsorised at the 5th and 95th percentile so one unusual job cannot move the band. Every total is in Canadian dollars, total cost with tax, and covers the crew, the truck and the hours billed on the agreement; storage and packing materials are billed separately. Business and high-frequency accounts are excluded. Cactus has closed 4,974 moves with at least one end in Calgary; the 3,685 measured here are the ones with both ends in the city, because a job that finishes in another one is a different kind of move and is priced as one. Measured August 30, 2026.

What each size of home costs to move in Calgary

One figure for a whole city hides the thing that decides the bill. A studio and a five bedroom house are charged the same way and are a completely different day of work, so the table splits the same jobs by the size of the home they emptied.

Read the middle column as the answer and the one beside it as the room the answer has. A job lands high in its band when there are stairs at both ends, a long carry to the truck, or a garage nobody had time to sort.

Read the smallest rows with their counts beside them: the 5+ bedroom row rests on 37 moves against the 4 bedroom row’s 154, which is why a row can sit below the one above it in Calgary. A median over a few dozen jobs moves with the jobs, and we publish it as measured rather than smoothing it.

The hourly rates behind those totals

Cactus bills a local Calgary move by the hour. You pick the crew and the truck, the agreement states the rate before anyone lifts anything, and the total is that rate against the hours the job really took. These are the same rates published on our Calgary page.

The totals above are what we invoiced, tax included. The hourly rates below are quoted before tax, and a move agreement also carries our standard operations fee, which the crew confirms with you before the truck rolls.

These are the same rates in all six Cactus cities. The card a crew in Calgary is billed against is the card a crew in Edmonton is billed against, on a weekday, a weekend or a holiday.

Four things that move a Calgary bill, and you control all of them

The rate is fixed. The hours are not, and every hour saved is money that stays with you.

  • Be packed before we arrive

The single biggest hour sink is a crew waiting on a kitchen. Boxes taped shut and stacked by the door on the morning of the move turns loading into carrying, which is the fast part.

  • Book the elevator, not just the day

In a Calgary condo tower the loading bay is reserved by the hour and a crew queued behind a delivery van is a crew you are paying. Call the building the week before and get the slot in writing.

  • Empty the drawers and the wardrobes

A loaded dresser needs two movers and a blanket run; an empty one goes on a dolly. The same goes for filing cabinets, tool chests and anything with a drawer that slides open on a ramp.

  • Decide what is not coming before moving day

Every box we carry is a box you pay to carry. A weekend of donation runs and a dump trip ahead of the move takes real hours off the invoice, and it is the one lever nobody uses enough.

When Calgary moves

August, June and July hold the most completed local moves in Calgary.

That is 444, 440 and 435 jobs out of the 3,685 measured here, and it counts work already done rather than what is free to book.

This is our own workload, not the city's. It says when our trucks are busiest, which is worth knowing if you want a specific Saturday, and it says nothing at all about price: the rate does not change by month.

How much does it cost to move within Calgary?

The middle local move in Calgary cost $768, total with tax, and half of the 3,685 jobs we have closed here fell between $469 and $1,213. Cactus bills by the hour, so what a move costs is what it takes: the rate follows the crew size and the truck, and the agreement states it before the work starts.

  • What does a two bedroom move cost in Calgary?

$888 is the middle figure for a two bedroom move in Calgary, out of 898 of them, and half of those fell between $637 and $1,242. A one bedroom sits at $584 and a three bedroom at $1,331, which is the clearest evidence that the size of the home decides the bill.

  • Why is the range so wide?

Because one figure covers every size of home in the city. A one bedroom apartment and a four bedroom house are billed at the same hourly rate and take a completely different day, which is why the $584 row and the $1,966 row are both correct. The table above is the useful version of this answer.

  • Do you charge for travel time in Calgary?

No. There is no charge for travel time within city limits, so a Calgary move is billed for the hours the crew is actually working at your two addresses. Across the moves measured here the middle job was billed 4.25 hours, with half of them running between 2.75 and 6.25 hours.

  • Is there a deposit or a fuel surcharge?

Neither, on a local Calgary move. The totals above are what the customer paid in full, tax included, and they cover the crew, the truck and the hours on the agreement. Packing materials and storage are quoted separately because not every move uses them.

  • How many movers will I need?

Two on most Calgary jobs: that is the middle crew across all 3,685 moves, with the busier quarter running three. The estimator sizes it from the room count and the access at both ends rather than from a rule, because a two bedroom on a third floor walk up is a three mover morning.

The rates and the services live on the branch page, the reviews are the customers' own words, and a move that leaves Alberta is priced a different way.

Send us the two addresses and roughly what is coming. A Calgary estimator reads it and sends back a written estimate with the crew, the truck and the hours we expect.
