An apartment move is rarely about the amount of furniture. It is about the distance between the truck and the door: a loading dock, a service elevator with a booked window, a corridor that runs the length of the floor, and a garage with a height bar that decides which truck can come in at all. Cactus prices apartment work on that carry, so the crew is sized to the building and not only to the bedroom count.
Most buildings want an elevator reservation and many want proof of insurance from the mover before they release it. Tell us the building and the office will send the paperwork your property manager asks for. On the day the crew pads the elevator, protects the corridor floor and keeps the doors clear, because a blocked lobby is how a booking gets cancelled halfway through.

How apartment moves are priced
The rate is hourly and it follows the crew and the truck, with a two hour minimum. What moves the number on an apartment job is the carry: a fifth floor walk up and a fifth floor with a service elevator are the same furniture and not the same day of work, so both go into the estimate before you book rather than onto the invoice afterwards.
There is one operations fee for the office coordination around the job. There is no fuel surcharge, no mileage, and no travel time charge within city limits. If your building charges its own elevator deposit or fee, that is between you and the building; it never appears on our invoice.

A spread taken from that many jobs would look like a measurement and read like a guess. What is firm at any sample size is the hourly rate card, and every city page below publishes it.
Totals are what Cactus invoiced, in Canadian dollars with tax in, for moves whose pickup and at least one drop-off were both inside the city. Medians and quartiles, never averages, winsorised at the 5th and 95th percentile so one unusual job cannot move a band. Storage and packing materials are billed on their own agreements and are outside these totals. Measured August 30, 2026.

What renters and condo owners ask the office before they book.
Do I book the elevator or do you?
You book it, because the building will only take the reservation from a resident or an owner. Tell us the window you were given and we plan the crew around it. If the building has released only a two hour slot, say so when you call and we will size the crew to finish inside it.
My building wants a certificate of insurance. Can you provide one?
Yes. Send the property manager's request to the office with the building address and the moving date and we will get the certificate to them. Ask early: some management companies want it several days before they will confirm the elevator.
What happens if there is no service elevator?
The crew carries. A walk up is quoted with the floor count in front of us, and above two or three floors it is usually cheaper to add a mover than to pay for the extra hours a short crew spends on stairs.
Can the truck park at the door?
Sometimes. Downtown buildings often have a dock with a height limit that rules out the 26 foot truck, and some streets need a permit for a standing vehicle. Tell us the address and the office will check what fits before the date is confirmed.
Do you move single rooms and shared apartments?
Yes. A room out of a shared apartment is a common job and it is usually two movers with the smaller truck. The estimate covers only your own furniture, so nothing that belongs to a housemate goes on the truck by accident.
Is the building's own moving deposit part of your quote?
No. Elevator deposits, key fobs and damage bonds are the building's charges and are paid to the building. Our estimate covers the crew, the truck, the protective materials and the one operations fee.
