Nothing about the work changes when the notice is short. The same crews, the same trucks and the same protective materials turn up. What changes is how the date is found, and that is worth understanding before you call, because it decides which questions get you a slot.
Three things open a day up. Cancellations: bookings fall through most weeks, and the office fills them from the people who said they could move at short notice. Flexibility: a Tuesday morning is far easier to find than a Saturday, and mid month is easier than the last weekend of it. Crew size: a bigger crew finishes inside a shorter window, so a job that will not fit a half day sometimes fits when a fourth mover is added. Tell the office which of the three you can give and it will work with that.

How short notice moves are priced
The rate card is the ordinary one. Short notice is not a surcharge at Cactus: the hourly rate follows the crew and the truck exactly as it does on a booking made a month out, with the same two hour minimum and the same single operations fee.
There is no fuel charge, no mileage and no travel time charge within city limits. What can move the total is the crew: taking a larger crew to finish inside a short window costs more per hour and usually fewer hours, and the office will tell you which way that lands before you agree to it.

Mississauga has 7 local moves on record, and this table publishes a price at 30 or more, so that row carries its count and no figures. A spread taken from that many jobs would look like a measurement and read like a guess. What is firm at any sample size is the hourly rate card, and every city page below publishes it.
Totals are what Cactus invoiced, in Canadian dollars with tax in, for moves whose pickup and at least one drop-off were both inside the city. Medians and quartiles, never averages, winsorised at the 5th and 95th percentile so one unusual job cannot move a band. Storage and packing materials are billed on their own agreements and are outside these totals. Measured August 30, 2026.

Can you move me tomorrow?
Sometimes, and it depends entirely on what is open at that branch on that day. Call rather than fill in a form: the coordinator can see the schedule and will tell you straight away whether there is a crew, rather than leaving you waiting on a reply.
Do you charge extra for short notice?
No. The published hourly rate is the same one a booking made weeks ahead pays, with the same minimum and the same single operations fee. What changes the total is the crew size and the hours, not the notice period.
What makes a short notice date easier to find?
Flexibility on the day and the start time. A weekday helps, a mid month date helps more, and being able to start early or late helps most. If you can offer two or three possible days the office can usually place you on one of them.
I have not packed anything. Is that a problem?
Not if you say so when you book. Packers can be added to the same job or sent the day before, and the crew brings the materials. An unpacked home with no packers booked is what turns a half day into a whole one.
Can you take my things now and deliver later?
Where the branch has storage available, yes: the crew loads on the date you have to be out and delivers when the new place is ready. Ask the coordinator about storage on the same call, because it is priced and scheduled with the move rather than after it.
