Movers in Wedgewood Heights: what we know about moving here

One flat fact defines Wedgewood Heights: every home in it is a single-detached house, and all but a handful are owner-occupied. There is no apartment stock, no row housing and nothing taller than a house, which strips most of the variables out of a moving day: no lift to reserve, no service entrance, no building management to clear the date with, no lease end forcing the calendar. What is left is a driveway, a front door, and however many staircases sit between the truck and the furniture.

It is a small community as well, with family-sized households and few people living alone, so the loads run family-sized rather than studio-sized and the dates follow a closing. The figures beneath this paragraph come from the ring of southwest Edmonton communities Wedgewood Heights sits inside.

Moving costs around Wedgewood Heights, by the numbers

That ring is 55 communities and 205 completed residential moves. Haddow, Blue Quill and Brander Gardens are in it, along with Garneau and Terwillegar South, which supply more of the count than the rest of the set does. The middle job across the 205 came to $867 with tax in after 4.75 hours on site; half fell between $480 and $1,546, and 70% were graded small against 5% large. On an hourly rate, the larger the home and the more stairs between the door and the truck, the further up that band a job lands.

How much does it cost to move in Wedgewood Heights?

The median local move across the 205 residential jobs in the southwest Edmonton communities around Wedgewood Heights came to $867 with tax included, with half of them between $480 and $1,546. Rates are hourly, set by the number of movers and the size of the truck, and the agreement states the figure before the crew starts.

  • What does a whole-house move in Wedgewood Heights involve?

A driveway, a front door and interior stairs, with no building to clear the date with. Every home here is single-detached. On an hourly rate that means the length of the day is set by the volume of the household and the distance from the door to the truck, and the median day across the surrounding southwest communities is 4.75 hours on site.

  • Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Wedgewood Heights?

Usually not: with every home detached and on its own frontage, the truck can normally stand on the driveway. Where it has to occupy the roadway instead, Edmonton's On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit is what covers it. No fee applies under the current schedule, with 6 working days' notice expected for low-impact work and 10 for high-impact.

  • What is included in the hourly rate, and is travel time charged?

The movers and the truck at the size the job needs, at a rate written into the agreement before anyone starts carrying. There is no deposit on a local move, no fuel surcharge, and no charge for travel time within city limits, so the clock covers the work at the two addresses.

Wedgewood Heights neighbourhood guide for moving day

Owner-occupancy this near-universal changes the booking more than it changes the day: dates here follow a possession day rather than the last day of a lease, so the calendar is set by a closing. The curb is the other item. An OSCAM permit from the City is what allows a truck to occupy the roadway, no fee is attached to it today, and 6 working days of notice is what the process expects on low-impact work. On a street where every home is detached with its own frontage, a driveway usually answers the question and no permit is needed at all.

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.

We had a great experience with Cactus. The guys were efficient, strong and friendly. Owen who I dealt with via email and booking was good to deal with too. We have a couple minor repairs to deal with but I can confident in this organization to follow this though.

Did a long distance move and it was the smoothest move ever. The guys were so kind, respectful and on time. I trusted the reviews and wasn’t disappointed, plus we got our little Cactus. Highly recommended.
