Movers in Leger: what we know about moving here

Leger is a small neighbourhood of houses: detached and semi-detached homes between them account for nine in ten, almost all of them owned rather than rented, and most of the stock dates from between 2001 and 2005. Households here are full ones rather than single occupants, which is the shape of a whole home being emptied on a possession date rather than a room cleared at a month end.

Nothing here is in a building of five storeys or more, so there is no lift or loading bay to reserve; the access questions are the driveway, the front steps and what is in the garage. The measured figures underneath come from the wider group of southwest Edmonton communities Leger belongs to.

Moving costs around Leger, by the numbers

That group holds 52 communities and 202 completed residential moves between them. Garneau, Haddow, Terwillegar South and the rest of the southwest ring are all in it. Their median was 4.75 hours on site and $864 with tax in; a quarter finished under $478 and a quarter went past $1,534. 70% were small jobs, a quarter medium and 5% large. It is a set holding everything from a single room to a full house, which is why one median carries a band that wide around it.

How much does it cost to move in Leger?

The median residential move across the southwest Edmonton communities around Leger costs $864 with tax in, and half of the 202 completed there fell between $478 and $1,534. Charging is hourly, and the hourly figure answers two questions: how many movers and how big a truck. Both are settled in the agreement before work starts, and nothing is payable in advance.

  • Does emptying a whole house cost more than the median?

It usually runs above it, because an hourly rate follows the hours and a whole home is more of them than a partial load. 70% of the 202 moves behind the $864 median graded small, a quarter medium and 5% large, and the middle job took 4.75 hours on site. A garage and a basement are what separate a long day from a short one, and a walkthrough is what prices them.

  • Why do quotes around Leger vary so much?

Because a single median covers 202 moves of every size, and the hours behind them run from 2.5 to 7.5 across the middle half. On an hourly rate that spread alone puts $478 at one quartile and $1,534 at the other. The rate itself does not change with the address; the amount of work does.

  • Is it cheaper to move at a certain time of year in Leger?

No. The hourly rate does not vary by month, so no date is priced differently from another. What varies with the season is how much work gets done: August, June and April carry the most completed moves across the southwest communities around Leger. Since the rate is hourly and travel time within city limits is not charged, the size of the job is what sets the total.

  • Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Leger?

Only if the truck cannot use the driveway and has to stand on the roadway instead. Edmonton's On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit is what covers that; it carries no fee at present, processing runs about 6 business days, and low-impact work asks for a minimum of 6 working days of notice against 10 for high-impact work.

Leger neighbourhood guide for moving day

Nine in ten homes here are houses of one kind or another and nearly all are owner-occupied, so a booking usually arrives with a possession date attached and a garage and a basement to clear. Volume rather than access is the planning problem, and a walkthrough before the date is what turns volume into hours. Curb space is rarely the difficulty on a street of driveways, but where it is, Edmonton's On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit is what covers a truck standing on the roadway. It is currently free, and it asks for 6 working days of notice on a lower-impact job, 10 on a high-impact one.

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.
