The measure of a Riverbend move that carries the most weight is the one directly below: the residential work completed across the 52 southwest Edmonton communities this neighbourhood sits among, Garneau, Haddow and Terwillegar South among them. That pooled set holds every size of home, from a single-bedroom apartment load to a detached house with a basement to clear, so its spread says more than its midpoint does. Where a particular job lands inside it is a question of how much there is to carry, how many flights it comes down and how far the truck ends up from the door.
The way the number is arrived at does not change from one address to the next. A local move is billed by the hour, at a rate set by the number of movers and the size of the truck, and the agreement states that rate before the crew starts. No deposit is taken, no fuel surcharge is added, and travel time within city limits is not charged, so the hours worked are the whole of the bill. Packing services and bin rentals are quoted separately, and Cactus is licensed, insured and bonded.
Moving costs around Riverbend, by the numbers
The 52 communities around Riverbend account for 201 residential moves, Garneau, Haddow, Terwillegar South, Chappelle, Blue Quill and Brander Gardens among them. Seven in ten of those graded small, a quarter medium and 5% large. The middle job there needed 4.75 hours on site and $867 with tax included, with the central half spread from $477 to $1,546. That is a broad band for a single figure to carry, and it is broad because one median is covering an apartment load and a full house at the same hourly rate.

-
How long does a move in Riverbend take?
The middle job across the 201 moves in the communities around Riverbend ran 4.75 hours on site, and half of them fell between 2.5 and 7.5 hours. -
What is included in the hourly rate?
The movers and a truck of the size the job needs, at a rate written into the agreement before anyone starts lifting. The $867 median above is a total with tax, not a subtotal. Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Riverbend?
Only if the truck has to occupy the roadway: Edmonton issues an On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit for that, and it carries no fee under the current schedule. The City asks for a minimum of 6 working days notice on low-impact work such as a move, and 10 working days on anything heavier, so it is a call to make the week before rather than the morning of. A driveway or a legal space out front needs nothing.

Riverbend neighbourhood guide for moving day
There is one piece of paperwork worth settling before a Riverbend date, and it is the kerb. Edmonton covers a truck occupying the roadway with an On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit, better known as OSCAM, which carries no fee under the current schedule but is not same-week paperwork: the City asks that low-impact work, which a residential move is, be filed a minimum of 6 working days ahead, and 10 working days for anything heavier. Processing runs longer through construction season. If the truck can sit on a driveway or in a legal space out front, none of it applies.
- What it costs
- No fee currently: OSCAM Permits associated with Temporary Crossing, Tree Shrub Hoarding and Waste Bin, POD or SeaCan work reasons currently have no fees associated with them. A daily permitting fee for on-street placement of commercial waste bins, PODs or SeaCans is planned but is on hold until further notice.
- How much notice
- Average processing time is 6 business days. Low-impact projects should be submitted a minimum of 6 working days prior to start of work; high-impact projects a minimum of 10 working days. Longer processing during peak construction season (March to October).

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.
