Movers in Mill Woods Park: what we know about moving here

Mill Woods Park is a southeast Edmonton community whose own boundary runs about 0.9 km across, and a move inside it is quoted the way every local job is: by the hour, on the number of movers and the size of the truck, with the rate written into the agreement before anything is carried out the door.

What that comes to in practice is measured across the ring of southeast communities this one sits inside, and those figures lead the page below. The one item with a lead time attached is the curb.

Moving costs around Mill Woods Park, by the numbers

$843 is the median across the 115 residential moves recorded in the southeast Edmonton communities around Mill Woods Park, tax included, with half of them falling between $505 and $1,312. It is a wide band, because the same set holds 64% small jobs alongside 9% large ones. Crew hours say the same thing: 4.25 in the middle, and a middle half stretching from 2.75 to 6.75. Thirty-three communities feed those figures, Summerside, Bonnie Doon and King Edward Park among them.

How much does it cost to move in Mill Woods Park?

The median local move across the southeast Edmonton communities around Mill Woods Park costs $843, total cost with tax, and half of those 115 jobs fell between $505 and $1,312. Cactus bills a local move by the hour, so the rate follows the number of movers and the size of the truck, and it is stated in the agreement before the crew starts.

  • How long does a move around Mill Woods Park take?

The middle job in that set of 115 southeast Edmonton moves ran 4.25 hours on site, with half of them between 2.75 and 6.75 hours. Because there is no charge for travel time within city limits, the bill follows the hours the crew is actually working.

  • Why do moving quotes around Mill Woods Park vary so much?

Because one median covers every size of home: of those 115 moves, 64% graded small, 28% medium and 9% large. At a single hourly rate the difference between them is hours, not a different price list, which is how a band that runs from $505 to $1,312 comes out of one set of jobs.

  • Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Mill Woods Park?

Only if the truck has to occupy the roadway itself. Edmonton issues an On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit for that, which currently carries no fee; low-impact work such as a residential move is asked to apply a minimum of 6 working days ahead and heavier work 10, with about 6 business days of processing.

Mill Woods Park neighbourhood guide for moving day

There is one item on this page with a lead time attached, and it is the curb. If the truck can use a driveway or an off-street parking area, nothing has to be arranged with the City at all. If it has to hold a stretch of the roadway in front of the door, Edmonton covers that with a street-occupancy permit whose notice is counted in working days rather than hours, and whose processing queue lengthens through peak construction season. Either way it is a question worth answering the week before the move rather than on the morning of it.

Booking the curb

On-Street Construction and Maintenance (OSCAM) Permit

City of Edmonton
What it costs
No fee currently: OSCAM Permits associated with Temporary Crossing, Tree Shrub Hoarding and Waste Bin, POD or SeaCan work reasons currently have no fees associated with them. A daily permitting fee for on-street placement of commercial waste bins, PODs or SeaCans is planned but is on hold until further notice.
How much notice
Average processing time is 6 business days. Low-impact projects should be submitted a minimum of 6 working days prior to start of work; high-impact projects a minimum of 10 working days. Longer processing during peak construction season (March to October).

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.

The crew of Raj, George, Karston were not prickly, they were fantastic. They arrived on time , had positive communication, executed a great move, and were professional all of the time.

I Have used them on 2 occasions to help move a family member out their house. 1st move house to storage that was a long move which is normal 8 hours with 2 movers not bad at all. 2nd move storage into the appartment ( Ivan and George load the truck under 1hr) . the move was done under 6 hours.

Overall I had a great experience with my move. The quote was fast and all my questions were answered right away. I was a little surprised that the movers showed up in a U-Haul truck, but George and Nikita were efficient, respectful and professional.
