Movers in Idylwylde: what we know about moving here

Idylwylde is a neighbourhood of small households in southeast Edmonton. Nearly half of its homes hold a single person, and household size is under two at the middle. Those are the smallest loads a mover handles, and the housing matches them: four homes in ten here are apartments of one kind or another, some in buildings of five storeys or more, with most of the rest detached houses.

In practice that means a large share of the work here starts at a building door, where the entry, the lift and the walk out to the truck set the pace rather than the volume of furniture. Renting is common enough that lease dates fix a good part of the calendar, and a lease date is the least movable one a crew works to. The figures below come from the southeast Edmonton communities around Idylwylde.

Moving costs around Idylwylde, by the numbers

That set is 29 southeast Edmonton communities and 110 residential moves between them: 64% small, 28% medium and 8% large. The middle one ran 4.25 hours on site, half of them between 2.81 and 6.75 hours, and cost $843 with tax counted, half falling between $509 and $1,333. It pools every size of home in the ring, so it is a band rather than a quote for one address.

How much does it cost to move in Idylwylde?

$843 is the median local move across the 110 residential jobs recorded in the southeast Edmonton communities around Idylwylde, total cost with tax, with half of them between $509 and $1,333. The rate is hourly. The number of movers and the size of the truck set it, and the agreement states it before the crew starts.

  • What is an apartment move like in Idylwylde?

It starts at a building door rather than a driveway: four homes in ten here are apartments, some of them in buildings of five storeys or more. That makes the entry, the lift and the walk out to the truck the three things worth settling with the building first, because on an hourly rate each of them is time.

  • Does a one-person household cost less to move?

It takes fewer hours, which on an hourly rate amounts to the same thing. Nearly half of Idylwylde’s homes hold a single person and household size is under two at the middle, so a good share of local jobs are a unit’s worth of furniture and boxes rather than a full house. The hours, not the address, are what the bill follows.

  • Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Idylwylde?

Only where the truck has to stand on the roadway. Edmonton covers that with an On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit, which carries no fee at present and asks for at least 6 working days’ notice on low-impact work, 10 on high-impact. Where the building has its own loading zone, that one is booked with the building rather than the City.

  • Is there a deposit, or a charge for travel time?

Neither. A local move takes no deposit, carries no fuel surcharge and is not billed for travel time within city limits, so the bill is the hours the crew works at the rate the agreement states.

Idylwylde neighbourhood guide for moving day

Four homes in ten in Idylwylde are apartments of one kind or another, and some of those are in buildings of five storeys or more, so a good share of jobs here begin behind a building door. Where that is the case, booking the lift and any loading zone with the building is the arrangement worth making early, ahead of the crew. For everything at street level, a truck standing on the roadway is covered by Edmonton’s On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit: no fee at present, a minimum of 6 working days’ notice for low-impact work and 10 for high-impact.

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.

Ivan and Serg were very professional. Nothing was damaged during the move. They arrived on time and it was a overall smooth process! The company seems to hire professional movers which is nice in comparison to what I have seen in the past with other companies.
