Movers in Hazeldean: what we know about moving here

Hazeldean is an older southeast Edmonton neighbourhood, and half of what people live in here is attached to something else. Duplex apartments and row houses figure as much as detached houses do, and nothing stands above four storeys. That settles the shape of a moving day before anything else does: a private door, an interior stair run and a walk out to the street, with no tower lift to reserve and no loading bay to share.

Tenure is close to evenly split, so lease ends and possession dates both turn up in the calendar here, and a lease end is the least movable date a crew works to. What that work costs and how long it runs is measured below, across the ring of southeast Edmonton communities Hazeldean sits inside.

How much does it cost to move in Hazeldean?

The median local move across the southeast Edmonton communities around Hazeldean costs $789, total cost with tax, and half of those 113 jobs fell between $478 and $1,216. Cactus bills a local move by the hour, on a rate set by the number of movers and the size of the truck, and the agreement states that rate before the crew starts.

  • How long does a move in Hazeldean take?

The middle move across those 113 southeast Edmonton jobs ran 4 hours on site, and half of them took between 2.5 and 6.75 hours. Because the rate is hourly, that spread of hours is most of what separates a short day from a long one: the volume coming out, the stairs behind the door and how far the truck can park from it.

  • What is a row house or duplex move like in Hazeldean?

Half of Hazeldean's homes are detached and most of the rest are attached to a neighbour, as duplex apartments or row houses. Those are stair-and-shared-entry jobs rather than driveway ones: where the truck cannot pull up close to the door, the walk between the two is part of the hours, and on an hourly rate that walk is the part people underestimate.

  • Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Hazeldean?

Only if the truck has to stand on the roadway. Edmonton covers that with an On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit, which currently carries no fee; the City asks for a minimum of 6 working days' notice on a low-impact request and 10 on a high-impact one, and processing runs around 6 business days on top of that.

  • Is there a deposit or a fuel surcharge on a local move?

Neither: a local move in Hazeldean takes no deposit and carries no fuel surcharge, and there is no charge for travel time within city limits, so the bill is the hours the crew is actually working at the rate the agreement states.

Hazeldean neighbourhood guide for moving day

Two things on this panel change a Hazeldean moving day. The first is that the housing is low: no home here is in a building of five storeys or more, so the stair run behind the front door and the width of the door itself are what set the pace, not a service elevator. The second is the curb. Edmonton covers a truck standing on the roadway with an On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit, which currently carries no fee and asks for a minimum of 6 working days on a low-impact request, 10 on a high-impact one, with processing time on top.

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.
