Movers in Mission: what we know about moving here

Mission is an inner-city community that is almost entirely apartments, and three homes in four are rented. Households are small, most of them a single person, so the work here is small, frequent and lease-driven: a suite, a building door, a lift that belongs to somebody else, and a date fixed by a tenancy rather than by a sale.

Our own record says the same thing in figures. Seventy-five per cent of the jobs completed here graded small. The crew is two movers at the median and two right across the middle half as well, which is tighter than a median on its own would tell you. The middle day runs 4 hours on site, with half of the 75 recorded jobs finishing between 3 and 5.25. Cost is grouped just as tightly: a $794 median with the middle half between $535 and $997, against $440 to $1,184 across the 37 southwest Calgary communities around it.

Mission neighbourhood guide for moving day

At 95% apartments, nearly every job in Mission begins or ends at a building door. The questions worth settling in advance are which entrance the crew may use, whether the elevator has to be booked, and how long the loading bay is held. None of that changes the rate; all of it changes the hours. Households here are small, so most of these are one-bedroom loads. Kerb space is the outdoor version of the same problem: holding it takes the City's Street Use Permit, $31.50 a day at the short-term rate with temporary no-parking carried inside it, filed five days out, and ParkPlus charges apply on top in a paid zone.

Street Use Permit stated at $31.50 per day for shorter-term use; the Temporary No Parking Permit is included in the Street Use Permit cost. ParkPlus parking fees apply on top if the restriction is in a paid parking zone.
How much notice
Apply at least 5 days in advance of the planned work for lower-impact work such as a residential move. Incomplete applications, revisions, or changes after submission can extend these timelines.

Mission moving costs, by the numbers

Two movers, twice: the crew band here is two to two, meaning half of all Mission jobs sat exactly at two movers rather than spreading up to three or four. That is the clearest signal in this band of what the housing does to the work. All of it counts moves since 2024 with either the origin or the destination sitting inside Mission, 35 of them in the last twelve months as an exact count, against an all-time figure written as a floor.

A one-bedroom move is nearly half of what we do in Mission: 45% of the work, 34 priced jobs, a $794 median, with half of them between $572 and $1,066. Two movers and one truck, and the middle day is 4.25 hours on site with half running 3.5 to 5.25 hours. The load itself is one room's furniture and a kitchen; what varies is how close the truck can get to the door and whether the lift is held or shared.

$817 is the median two-bedroom move in Mission, from 20 priced jobs, with half of them between $569 and $1,134. Still two movers and one truck; the middle day is 4.5 hours on site, a quarter of an hour more than a one-bedroom, with half running 3.19 to 5.69 hours. At 27% of the work here it is the second size this community produces in volume, and the looser price band is a second bedroom's furniture rather than a different kind of day.

  • 6.25 hours on site half ran 4.25–8.5 hours

Mission has fewer than five three-bedroom moves of its own, so this card describes that size across the southwest Calgary communities around it: 190 of them, a $1,334 median, and 6.25 hours on site with three movers and one truck. Half ran between 4.25 and 8.5 hours, and half of the prices fell between $863 and $1,940. That wider set includes detached houses as well as apartments, which is most of why the day is longer than anything in Mission's own record.

Fewer than five moves of this size here, so these figures come from Southwest Calgary, across 190 moves.

half fell between $847 and $2,977 · 65 moves

  • 8 hours on site half ran 4–10 hours
  • 3 movers · 1 truck the crew and trucks actually dispatched, median

The four-bedroom-plus card is a southwest Calgary figure too: 65 moves at that size, a $1,961 median, three movers with one truck, and 8 hours on site in the middle. Half of those days ran anywhere between 4 and 10 hours, and half of the prices between $847 and $2,977. That is the loosest band of the four, because a home that size is mostly decided by how much of it is boxed before the day starts. Nothing at this size has been completed inside Mission itself.

Fewer than five moves of this size here, so these figures come from Southwest Calgary, across 65 moves.

How much does it cost to move in Mission?

The median local move in Mission costs $794, total with tax, and half of the 68 priced jobs closed here fell between $535 and $997. Cactus bills by the hour, at a rate set by the number of movers and the size of the truck and written into the agreement before the crew starts. Because almost every home here is an apartment, the jobs resemble each other closely, which is why that band is as tight as it is.

  • What does a one-bedroom apartment move in Mission cost?

$794 is the median one-bedroom move in Mission, across 34 priced jobs, with half of them between $572 and $1,066. It is 45% of the work we do here, and the middle one runs 4.25 hours on site with two movers and one truck.

  • What does a two-bedroom move in Mission cost?

$817 is the median two-bedroom move in Mission, from 20 priced jobs, with half of them landing between $569 and $1,134. That is two movers, one truck and 4.5 hours on site in the middle, a quarter of an hour more than a one-bedroom and very close to it on price.

  • Why are Mission moves so consistent in price?

Because the homes are: 95% of them are apartments, 75% of the jobs here graded small, and the middle half of the moves used exactly two movers. That produces a $535 to $997 middle half around a $794 median, against $440 to $1,184 across the 37 southwest Calgary communities around it. The jobs that reach the far end have more rooms behind the door, not a different rate.

  • Where does the truck park for a Mission move?

Wherever the building allows, first. The loading bay or the spot closest to the entrance is worth booking with management along with the lift. Where the truck has to hold kerb space instead, Calgary's Street Use Permit is stated at $31.50 per day for shorter-term use, includes the temporary no-parking permit, and needs at least 5 days' notice; in a paid parking zone ParkPlus fees apply on top. None of it changes the hourly rate, but all of it changes how long the day runs.

  • Do you move three- and four-bedroom homes in Mission?

Yes, though fewer than five of each size have been completed inside Mission's own boundary, which is why the last two cards above widen to the southwest Calgary communities around it: $1,334 over 6.25 hours for a three-bedroom, $1,961 over 8 hours for a four-bedroom-plus. The crew and the rate are the same ones a one-bedroom here is billed at; the day is longer.

Ask Calgary in person, or price the move yourself in a minute.

Moving to Mission, or out of it

Mission's two directions are evenly matched: 36 moves in and 36 out, 48% each. In a community where three homes in four are rented, both halves run on lease dates rather than possession times. The day is fixed weeks ahead by a tenancy, the building wants notice, and at both ends the lift is booked by somebody other than you.

Beltline is the neighbourhood these moves most often start from or end in, and the rest stay largely inside the southwest ring. Whichever way yours runs, the crew, the truck and the hourly rate are the same, and travel time within city limits is not charged; what differs is which building's entrance and loading bay have to be arranged first.

Thé 2 guys that moved me, at the end of Feb. , were Fantastic. They had to move me thru the skinniest hallway ever, and down 3 sets of really high stairs. At least moving into my new place they had a elevator.

We used Cactus to move recently and I have to say they were fantastic. We were told they would arrive at 8 am and they weren’t a second late. They arrived and immediately began strategizing how to tackle the move. All items were handled with care.

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.
