Black Creek puts together two things that pull a moving day in opposite directions. Most of its homes are apartments in buildings of five storeys or more, which usually means a compact load. The households filling them break that expectation: they run to nearly three people, and only about a quarter are one person on their own. What that produces is a tower move carrying a family's worth of furniture: more trips through the same lift, and a longer day than the building type alone would suggest. Row housing takes much of the remainder, which swaps the lift for a staircase without shrinking the load.
Two homes in three here are rented, so most dates are fixed by a lease rather than a closing, and the building usually has a say in them. The figures set out below come from the wider group of northwest Toronto communities Black Creek sits inside.
Moving costs around Black Creek, by the numbers
Black Creek's figures come from the 28 northwest Toronto communities around it, which have logged 81 completed residential moves between them: York University Heights, Yorkdale-Glen Park, Willowdale West and Lansing-Westgate among the named counts. The middle job billed $773 with tax in and ran 3.5 hours on site, with half of them between $530 and $1,237. Only 61% of it graded small and 33% medium, so the pool carries more full-household work than a downtown one would.

How much does it cost to move in Black Creek?
$773 is the middle across the 81 residential moves recorded in the northwest Toronto communities pooled with Black Creek, tax in, with half of them between $530 and $1,237. It is not a measurement of this boundary. The rate itself is hourly, set by how many movers and how large a truck the job needs, and stated in the agreement before anyone starts lifting.
-
Why is a Black Creek move usually a tower move?
Because 55% of the homes here are in a building of five storeys or more and only 9% are single-detached, with another 16% row houses. So the day almost always runs through a lobby: a service lift to book, a bay to hold, and a corridor between the unit and the tailgate. Where that lift is shared rather than held, the clock is what pays for it.
-
Do bigger households make a Black Creek move longer?
They can. Homes here hold 2.9 people at the middle, which is more than the tower share alone would suggest, and 67% of them are rented. A fuller apartment means more trips through the same lift rather than a bigger truck, and since the billing is hourly those trips are the whole difference. 33% of the nearby record graded medium, which says the same thing from the other side.

Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Black Creek?
Toronto publishes nothing that covers it. The street occupation permit it does publish names moving containers, so a truck at the curb is unaddressed, and 311 is where to ask about your address. For a tower here the booking that matters is the building's: the lift window and the loading bay are arranged with the superintendent, not with the City.

Black Creek neighbourhood guide for moving day
The pairing on this panel is what makes a move here longer than a tower move usually is: most homes are in buildings of five storeys or more, and the households in them are close to three people. More boxes have to pass through the same lift window, so booking that elevator matters more here, not less, and so does knowing what hours the property allows a move. The row houses substitute a staircase for the same problem. As for the street, the City documents container permits and not truck parking, which sends the roadside question to 311 rather than to a web page.

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.
