Miller is one of the newer parts of northwest Edmonton: the middle home belongs to the 2001 to 2005 band, most of the housing is owned rather than rented, and households run to nearly three people each. That combination produces whole-household loads on possession-day dates rather than one-room loads on lease ends, and a job that starts at a private front door.
The qualifier is the apartment fringe. About a fifth of the homes here sit in low-rise buildings, so a share of the work still begins at a building entrance and a stairwell, and with nothing standing five storeys or more, no tower lift is available to carry any of it. The hours and prices below come from the ring of northwest Edmonton communities Miller sits inside.
Moving costs around Miller, by the numbers
Widened out, that is 27 communities and 279 completed residential moves in northwest Edmonton: 4 hours on site for the middle job, $710 with tax in, and half of them between $496 and $1,091. The grading runs 74% small, 21% medium and 5% large. Read it as a working range rather than a quote, because at one hourly rate the distance between the two ends of that band is hours of work.

How much does it cost to move in Miller?
The median local move across the northwest Edmonton communities around Miller costs $710, total cost with tax, and half of those 279 jobs fell between $496 and $1,091. Nothing in Miller stands five storeys or more, so on an hourly rate what separates $496 from $1,091 is the volume coming out and the stairs behind the door rather than the kind of building.
-
Is it cheaper to move out of an apartment than a house in Miller?
The hourly rate is identical either way, because it follows the crew and the truck rather than the type of home, so what differs is the number of hours. With roughly a fifth of Miller's homes in low-rise apartment buildings and most of the rest detached houses, both kinds of day are ordinary here, and the middle job across the surrounding northwest set ran 4 hours.
-
How long does a move in Miller take?
The middle job across the 279 northwest Edmonton moves around Miller ran 4 hours on site, with half of them finishing between 2.75 and 6 hours. A whole-household load sits toward the longer part of that, since more rooms means more trips at the same hourly rate.
-
Do you charge for travel time to Miller?
No. There is no charge for travel time within city limits, so a Miller move is billed for the hours the crew is actually working on site. That is a median of 4 hours across the 279 moves in the surrounding northwest communities, with the middle half running 2.75 to 6 hours.
-
Do I need a permit to park a moving truck in Miller?
Only where the truck must occupy the roadway rather than a driveway. Edmonton issues an On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit for that, currently without a fee, asking a minimum of 6 working days of notice for low-impact work such as a move and 10 for higher-impact jobs, with about 6 business days of processing.

Miller neighbourhood guide for moving day
Two things follow from this panel. Miller's housing is low-rise throughout, so no tower lift or loading bay enters the plan and the vertical part of a move is whatever stairs the building or the house itself has, which is worth knowing in advance where the work starts at a shared entrance rather than a driveway. The second is the street. Edmonton's On-Street Construction and Maintenance permit is what covers a truck occupying the roadway, and it counts its notice in working days rather than hours, so if your block leaves the truck no choice, that is a request to file the week before.

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.

Rough start, strong finish I hired Cactus Moving twice: first to move my belongings into storage, and later to move everything into my new home once construction was finished. The first move was very disappointing. The day started with a truck breakdown on the way to my house.

I was 100% satisfied with Cactus Moving. My movers were prompt, courteous, and did an amazing job. I would use this company again and recommend them to others. I appreciated the call before the move confirming everything as well as the call after the move to make sure I was satisfied.
