Movers in Seton: what we know about moving here

Seton is one of Calgary's newest southeast communities and it is still filling in. Most of its homes are apartments and most of them are rented, and that mix decides what a move here looks like more than anything else does: a job here usually starts at a building door rather than a driveway, and it follows a lease date rather than a closing date.

The moves are also mostly compact. 62% of the ones we have completed in Seton were graded small and only 5% large, which is why the four cards further down split the same jobs by the size of the home instead of leaving one figure to cover a one-bedroom apartment and a four-bedroom house.

Seton neighbourhood guide for moving day

Two things on this list change a moving day in Seton. The first is the housing: with most homes here in apartments, most jobs start at a building door rather than a driveway, and the elevator and the loading zone are worth booking with the building before the date. The second is the curb. Calgary issues a Street Use Permit together with the temporary no-parking permit it requires, and it wants at least 5 days' notice. If the truck needs the kerb lane, that is a call to make the week before rather than the morning of.

Seton moving costs, by the numbers

These figures cover every residential move Cactus has completed with a pickup or a drop-off inside Seton's own community boundary since 2024. The all-time count above is a floor rather than a total; the twelve-month figure beside it is exact, and in a community still filling in like Seton that is the more useful of the two. It describes the buildings people live in now rather than the ones that were still being framed.

What a move in Seton actually looks like

Four sizes of move, cut out of 128 completed residential jobs in Seton. Another 35 were storage runs, container loads and part-home jobs whose paperwork records no bedroom count; they belong to none of the four.

Two movers and one truck handle most one-bedroom moves in Seton, and the median job is finished in 4 hours on site. Half run between 3 and 4.63 hours. Stairs, a lift and how far the truck can park from the door are what move a job inside that band. The work is a bedroom, a living room and a kitchen's worth of boxes, with the bed frame and the wardrobe usually the only pieces that need both movers at once.

Still a two-mover, one-truck job, with a median of 4.5 hours on site. A second bedroom's worth of furniture and boxes adds about half an hour to a one-bedroom day. The band is tight: half of the 33 we have completed fell between $751 and $960, which is what an hourly rate does to a job whose contents are fairly predictable. These are apartment and townhouse moves more often than house moves, so a booked lift and a clear loading spot are worth arranging first.

Three movers, one truck, and a median of 6.5 hours: a full working day rather than a morning. This is the widest band on the page: half of the 19 three-bedroom moves in Seton landed between $641 and $2,229, because at this size the day is as much about the garage and the basement as about the number of bedrooms. A walkthrough before the date matters more here than at any other size; it is what says whether the job sits near the bottom of that band or the top.

  • 10.75 hours on site half ran 9.44–12.25 hours
  • 4 movers · 2 trucks the crew and trucks actually dispatched, median

A four-bedroom-plus move is a different kind of day: 4 movers, 2 trucks and a median of 10.75 hours on site. Only 6 of Seton's moves have been this size, 5% of the book, so read $3,389 as the middle of a small sample rather than as a rate. Half of the six fell between $2,484 and $4,383. The hourly rate is the same one every other job here is billed at; what makes the day long is how much of the house is packed before we arrive.

How much does it cost to move in Seton?

The median local move in Seton costs $793, total cost with tax, and half of the 99 local jobs we have closed here fell between $612 and $1,114. Cactus charges by the hour, so what a move costs is what it takes: the rate follows the number of movers and the size of the truck, and the agreement states it before anyone starts.

  • What does a two-bedroom move in Seton cost?

$835 is the median for a two-bedroom move in Seton, and half of the 33 we have completed fell between $751 and $960. That is typically two movers, one truck and 4.5 hours on site. A one-bedroom runs $677 and a three-bedroom $1,433. The cards above set out the band, the crew and the trucks at each size.

  • Why is the range of prices in Seton so wide?

Because one median covers every size of home. A one-bedroom apartment or condo and a four-bedroom house are billed at the same hourly rate and are a completely different day: 4 hours against 10.75, two movers against four. Splitting the moves by size, as the cards above do, answers the question better than a single figure for the whole community can.

  • Is it cheaper to move at a certain time of year in Seton?

The hourly rate does not change by month, so no date in Seton is priced differently from another. What moves with the season is how much we are doing, not what we charge. Because the rate is hourly and there is no charge for travel time within city limits, the real lever on what a move costs is the size of the job, which is what the cards above are for.

  • Do you charge for travel time to Seton?

No. There is no charge for travel time within city limits, so a Seton move is billed for the hours the crew is actually working. That is a median of 4.5 hours across the moves we have completed here, with half of them running between 3.25 and 6 hours.

  • What is included in the hourly rate?

The movers and the truck at the size the job needs, on a rate the agreement states before the crew starts. The $793 median above is total cost with tax, not a subtotal. There is no deposit on a local move and no fuel surcharge. Packing services and bin rental are available in Seton and are quoted separately.

Moving to Seton, or out of it

Most of the moves attributed to Seton are people arriving: 61 came into the community and 60 left it. Because most homes here are rented, an arrival is far more often a lease starting than a sale closing. The date is fixed weeks ahead, the building wants notice, and the elevator is booked by somebody other than you.

Only 7 of the moves we have completed here ran from one Seton address to another, and a move out of Seton usually ends somewhere in the ring of southeast communities around it. Whichever direction yours runs, the crew, the truck and the hourly rate are the same; what changes is whose loading dock has to be booked.

Had a great experience with Cactus moving this week. The movers came on time, were very polite and efficient. At the door off we had an unexpected issue, the BBQ would not fit in the balcony door.

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.
