Movers in Acadia: what we know about moving here

Acadia divides almost exactly down the middle: owners against renters, houses against apartments. That split is what a crew plans around here. Roughly half the bookings start at a driveway and a front door; the other half start at a building entrance, with a lift and a loading area somebody has to reserve. It is also a community of small households, so a good many of these jobs are one person's furniture rather than a whole family's.

Our own record backs that up. The middle move in Acadia finished in 4 hours on site with a crew of two, and the median local move came to $769 with tax across the 50 jobs priced here. Half of them landed between $580 and $1,265, which is the width you get when a one-bedroom apartment and a detached house are billed at the same hourly rate. Splitting the work by the size of the home, as the four cards below do, is the more useful read.

Acadia neighbourhood guide for moving day

Two things on this panel decide the logistics of an Acadia move. The first is that a large minority of the homes here sit in apartment buildings, so a good share of jobs begin at a building door, and the lift and the loading area are worth reserving with building management well before the date. The second is the kerb. Calgary's shorter-term Street Use Permit is stated at $31.50 per day, the temporary no-parking permit it requires is included in that, ParkPlus fees apply on top in a paid zone, and the City wants the application at least 5 days out.

Acadia moving costs, by the numbers

Every figure in this band comes from residential moves with a pickup or a drop-off inside Acadia's own community boundary, counted from 2024 onward. The all-time number is a floor rather than a total; the 33 moves in the last twelve months are exact. Crew hours cover 56 jobs and the price band 50.

What a move in Acadia actually looks like

Four sizes of move, cut out of 56 completed residential jobs in Acadia. Another 19 were storage runs, container loads and part-home jobs whose paperwork records no bedroom count; they belong to none of the four.

Two movers and one truck handle a one-bedroom move in Acadia, and the median job finishes in 4 hours on site. Half of the 10 we have completed at this size ran between 3.56 and 4.75 hours, and half cost between $663 and $804. That is a tight band, because a one-bedroom's contents do not vary much from one home to the next. With Acadia split so evenly between houses and apartments, a one-bedroom here can start at a driveway or at a building entrance, and where there is a lift the booked window decides where in that band the day lands.

At two bedrooms an Acadia job usually picks up a third mover, and the median day runs 5.25 hours on site; half of the 16 we have completed fell between 4 and 6.5 hours. These are apartment and condo moves more often than house moves, so the elevator window and a clear spot for the truck shape as much of the day as the furniture does. Half of them cost between $728 and $1,473, the widest band of the three sizes Acadia has enough moves to publish on its own.

  • 3 movers · 1 truck the crew and trucks actually dispatched, median

Three movers, one truck and a median of 5.75 hours: a three-bedroom house move in Acadia is a full working day rather than a morning. Half of the 10 at this size ran between 4.44 and 7.19 hours and cost between $874 and $1,468. At this size the garage and the basement matter as much as the bedroom count, which is why a walkthrough before the date earns more here than at any smaller size: it is what says which half of that band your home sits in.

  • 8 hours on site half ran 5.5–10.25 hours
  • 4 movers · 1 truck the crew and trucks actually dispatched, median

A four-bedroom-plus day is a different job again: four movers, one truck and a median of 8 hours on site across the southeast Calgary communities, with half of the 65 moves at this size running between 5.5 and 10.25 hours. Acadia has fewer than five of its own this big, so those figures describe the wider set rather than the community. The hourly rate is the one every smaller job is billed at; what stretches the day is how much of the house is packed before the crew arrives.

Fewer than five moves of this size here, so these figures come from Southeast Calgary, across 65 moves.

How much does it cost to move in Acadia?

The median local move in Acadia costs $769, total cost with tax, and half of the 50 local jobs priced here fell between $580 and $1,265. Cactus bills by the hour, so what a move costs is what it takes: the rate follows the number of movers and the size of the truck, and the agreement states it before the crew starts.

  • What does a two-bedroom move in Acadia cost?

$905 is the median for a two-bedroom move in Acadia, and half of the 16 we have completed fell between $728 and $1,473. That is typically three movers, one truck and 5.25 hours on site. A one-bedroom runs $672 and a three-bedroom $1,187. The cards above give the band, the crew and the truck for each size.

  • Is an apartment move in Acadia different from a house move?

Mostly in where the day starts: an apartment move begins at a building door, with a lift and a loading area to reserve, while a house move begins at a driveway. Acadia holds both in roughly equal measure, which is why the cards above separate a two-bedroom apartment or condo at $905 from a three-bedroom house at $1,187. The hourly rate is identical; the access is what changes.

  • Is it cheaper to move at a certain time of year in Acadia?

No. The hourly rate does not change by month, so no date in Acadia is priced differently from another. Our completed work here spreads across the year rather than stacking into high summer, with May, August and October carrying the most moves.

  • How many movers will an Acadia move need?

Two is the median crew on an Acadia move, and half of the 56 jobs behind that figure used two or three. Size is what decides it: the cards above show two movers on a one-bedroom and three from two bedrooms upward. More movers means a higher hourly rate and a shorter day, so the total often lands in a similar place either way.

Ask Calgary in person, or price the move yourself in a minute.

Moving to Acadia, or out of it

Slightly more of the Acadia moves on our record are people arriving than leaving: 28 came into the community and 25 left it. With tenure split almost evenly between owning and renting, an arrival here is about as likely to follow a lease date as a possession date. A lease date is fixed weeks ahead, which usually means the building wants notice and somebody other than you books the elevator.

Whichever direction yours runs, the crew, the truck and the hourly rate are the same; what changes is which end of the day has a building door in it. Travel time within city limits is not charged either way, so the clock that matters is the one running at the address.

Figures come from Cactus’s own completed residential moves (business and high-frequency accounts excluded) and from official municipal open data; they are medians and quartiles, never averages, every published figure rests on at least five moves, percentages are rounded, and all-time counts are floors because some older pickup and drop-off addresses were never geocoded.
